Natale a Napoli - a website detailing Christmastime events in Naples, such as the following:
  • Christmas at Mostra d'Oltremare - a christmas market from 12-21 December
  • Antique Fair - at Villa Comunale (near Castel dell'Ovo) Dec 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th, 8 AM - 2 PM
  • Classical Music in Churches (Note d'Iverno) (more info on Naples tourism page) - a series of free concerts of mostly classical music, including:

  • 12/19 (8:30 PM) and 12/20 (6 PM) San Carlo Orchestra playing Haydn's "London" Symphony
  • Ice skating rink ("ice park") at Spalti del Maschio Angioino (Terraces of the Castel Nuovo) until 2/28, 10-midnight, free entry, 6 euro to rent skates
  • LOTS of Nativity Scene (Presepi) exhibits: one on Via Duomo (free, Chiesa San Severo al Pendino, M-Sat 9:30-7 until 1/8), one next to Gesu' Nuovo (donations requested, 6:45-1 & 4-7:30), one at Castel dell'Ovo, one on Via Toledo (Chiesa di San Nicola alla Carità, 10-1 & 4-8 until 1/11), Santa Chiara church (ticket pays for cloister & museum as well)...not to mention Christmas Alley (San Gregorio Armeno).  Also check out Presepe Vivente (live Nativity Scenes) in San Pietro (just north of Capo, 12/26-12/28 7:30), Villa Nestore (Via Emilio Scaglione 464, north of Montesanto exit off the Tang, 12/20, 26, and 28 6:30-10), Agerola (12/26 and 12/28 5:30-7:30), San Salvatore di Vico Equense (12-26-29 and 1/1 6-9), Acerra (Annunziata church, 1/3-1/4 6-9), and Ischia (near Castello Arogonese, 12/27 4-10 PM)

New Years Eve - Big concert in Piazza Plebiscito and fireworks launched from Castel dell'Ovo

Their website is still under construction, so you have to go to various regional websites to find their schedules:  For example, a subpage of the Circumvesuviana site has their Vesuvius area timetables, a PDF on the Monte di Procida website has their Monte D timetables, Procida.net features Procida schedules, and a random webpage in English shows Ischia's bus lines (but no schedule)

  • 4/29 Archeological Museum re-opens an exhibition of Pompeii Frescoes.
  • Soccer Games - Home games: 4/26 against Inter Milan, 5/17 against Torino, 5/31 against Chievo (see the rest of their schedule on the team website, UEFA.com, or Yahoo sports; learn about the team at the S.S.C. Napoli Wikipedia entry).  Most games are pay-per-view, but you can usually find a free Internet stream at myp2p.eu.
  • Mozart's Abduction from the Serraglio plays 4/18, 4/21, 4/23, 4/26, and 4/28. Also concerts, such as Mozart Piano Concerto #24 and "Linz" Symphony 5/15 and 5/16 at 6 PM.  See San Carlo Opera page for more information.

    • Each weekend there is a special tour through various neighborhoods downtown; many tours are offered in English
    • 22-23 May: Cimitero delle Fontanelle

  • 6/5-6: Anteprimairpina ("Preview Irpinia") wine festival, at Castello Marchinale in Taurasi (6-10 PM on 5th and 11 AM-7 PM on 6th, wine tastings)
  • 6/12-13: Fuoco Barocco Festival in Avellino, where on Sunday from 8 to 2 they will try to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Mozzarella Braid.
  • 6/18 at 9 PM Pergolesi's Stabat Mater performed by the Turchini Orchestra in the Pozzuoli Cathedral (of Saint Proculus) in the Rione Terra, which has been closed for 30 years....this begins a Pergolesi Festival that runs through July
  • 6/18-20: Porcini Mushroom Festival in Montoro Inferiore (south of Avellino)

  • 6/19-20: Festival of Typical Products, including local cheeses, in Bagnoli Laceno (southwest of Avellino)
